MapMania 2026 - Competition Results

MapMania is a competition between map creators for Unturned. This year, it lasted a full month between September and October. Map creators collaborated in teams of up to three to compete for the top three placements. The official workshop item collection can be found here.

1st Place - Dayshift at Big J's

Big J's is the map that feels the most like an actual minigame. There are a few bugs, like grill slots breaking.

I missed the manager's tutorial, which is on me, so I didn't realize the virus bar was my energy until I started dying while cooking. A short explanation in the workshop description would help a lot, so you know how it works before you start playing.

It's not as polished or beautiful as Isola Gambero, which is why it's my #2, but I really liked it and it's a great take on the minigame theme.

Dayshift at Big J's is a clear standout in the submissions because it establishes a rather simplistic gameplay loop that is enjoyable and makes use of standard game mechanics. Featuring a large assortment of menu items utilizing the crafting system and a clever endurance system keeps players invested. Culminating in a simple, easy-to-follow minigame for everyone. However, in our testing, we found that there was an assortment of minor bugs that made score progression difficult at times. — Jdance

This was everything I was looking for when it comes to a minigame. It has a simple concept that you can easy get into you and has an effective gameplay loop. I was so invested in making those burgers when playing this minigame. The project does have some bugs that need to be addressed if the developers ever decide to go back and update it. Overall a amazing submission. — Cucuycharles

2nd Place - Isola Gambero

In my opinion, Isola Gambero is the best-looking map. You fly seaplanes through ring courses and pop balloons in the sky to unlock new planes.

It's short, which is fine, but it feels more like a beautiful showcase map than a minigame someone would play many times. Still, it's the most polished and finished map in the jam, which is why it's my #1. — MCrow

Isola Gambero features good level design and a well polished set of two distinctive mini-game types. Its spotlight on Unturned's flying mechanics and vehicle upgrades is rather refreshing. The ring-based objectives reminded me of racing games with flying, such as Mariokart. With that being said, there is little difficulty and no truly repeatable gameplay loop. — Jdance

Cucuycharles

A laid back Unturned flying sim experience. I enjoyed flying around and doing the quest that the NPC's gave. Was a good time and definitely see myself playing again. — Cucuycharles

3rd Place - Dimensional Fragmentation

Created by Glitched and Zoliworks.

MCrow

Dimensional Fragmentation is the most ambitious map, but with progression that can last for days it's more of a full game mode than a minigame.

Still, once it's finished it has the potential to be a big hit, something like Unturnov. — MCrow

Dimensional Fragmentation stems from an obsession with getting a broad and interesting concept within a map. There is a lot of focus on grinding for progression. Players can participate in parkour, hunting, scavenging, housing, and automation. While this map is extremely impressive, it caused general confusion among our judges over bugs and a lack of more tutorial content. Alongside that, it arguably violates the minigame theme we established, as progression can last days or months depending on your willingness to continue. — Jdance

The project has a lot going on and ultimately didn't get to finish a lot of it before the deadline. I really liked this project though and can see the potential of it. But the things that are already finished is marvelous. — Cucuycharles

Runner Up - The Third Variant

I liked the idea of The Third Variant. It fits the minigame theme well. It just doesn't feel finished yet compared to the others. — MCrow

Jdance

We feel that this runner-up map is a well respected submission. It involves time limited objectives, parkour, and puzzle elements. The Third Variant is enjoyable to play but lacks completion. In comparison to other submissions, we unfortunately had to make the tough decision of designating the runner-up. — Jdance

Cucuycharles

The concept of going through individual parkour levels and them having a unique identity was something very enjoyable. Along with this the a voice over in the start was a very welcomed suprised. The Third Variant was a very enjoable experience. — Cucuycharles

Closing Remarks

Me and Charles have had a great time hosting this event for those passionate about the community. We appreciate the committment all of the participating teams had during a rather busy time of year.

We've had some rule clarifications during the course of the event. Safe to say that this was a learning experience and we'll always try to improve MapMania.

Now it is time for the players to enjoy these projects.

Cheers.
